2025 France Canyon Fire, UT

The France Canyon Fire started by lightning on July 11, 2025, near the towns of Hatch and Panguitch, Utah, neighboring Bryce Canyon N.P. In the end the fire burned across 34,943 acres, threatening nearby homes and prarie dog habitat. Both values remained intact and there were no serious injuries. Firefighters were aided by rocky landscape in many areas, and good logistical support from local type 3 incident management teams and Great Basin Complex IMT 5 for two weeks. I served as a public info officer with the team in July.
