2024 New Mexico Fires
(312 photos)

The Blue 2, South Fork and Salt Fires burned above the Village of Ruidoso,
New Mexico, from May into July, 2024. The lightning-started Blue 2 Fire burned 7,532 acres within the burn scar of the Little Bear Fire of 2012, and largely benefited the landscape. The lightning-started South Fork Fire began June 17 and burned 17,569 acres and 1,400 buildings, killing two people. Along with the nearby Salt Fire, the South Fork Fire unleashed unprecedented ash flow and debris during monsoonal flooding that reaped destruction upon Ruidoso. Some of the subjects pictured here include the Smokey Bear Hotshots, the Wyoming Hotshots, UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems or Drones), a Rapid Extraction Module Support (REMS) training scenario, Ruidoso NM flooding, and FEMA/Urban Search & Rescue (USAR) Dog Teams.
