July 1, 2001: Two Alaska Smokejumpers were dropped to construct a helispot on a wildfire burning in the rugged wilderness near Kenai Lake, AK. They completed their mission before nightfall. The following day, additional crews and resources responded to battle the stubborn flames burning in mixed spruce.
