Once the fire reached higher elevations, our biggest obstacle was negotiating muddy bulldozer lines. On day four, a band of jumpers headed for town to buy X-Tra Tuff Rubber Boots - happy feet again. ATV's are usually coveted modes of transportaion on fire assignments, but not this one. Hardy ATV pilots had dozer trenches filled with muddy slush to deal with - some three feet deep.
